Dear Annie
Thanks for such a comprehensive work of Meisel. Would be great if you could post his earlier work prior to Vogue ie. first editorial with any magazine ever etc? He rarely if ever gives any interviews and since you are so knowledgable about his work, i was wondering if you could post as to how you think he got to break into the best fashion magazines, what connections helped him establish himself early on etc.(the more detailed your reply, the better). I am more interested in his earlier breaks.ie. how he pieced it all together/laid the foundation etc for getting to such heights later on.

I refer you to this article,incredibly insightful. hfgl.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fashion&action=display&thread=100&page=1#350His first fashion job was as an illustrator at WWD,i'd kill to see the drawings:( Looks like his first ed was in Seventeen.His first cover was Soho Weekly News.From what the article says,looks like it was in 79!You can see it in the article.That cover led to ads for Charivari and Willi Wear.Then he shot Self covers (which i MUST find.)At the same time he was also working for Mademoiselle,and Lei and sometimes Vogue. |
